Livermore, California (EastBayDaily) — All Systems Broadband (ASB) announces the issuance of another patent by the US Patent Office. The patent covers a unique HDMI® cable interface that increases its retention strength while still meeting the maximum connector withdrawal force standard established by HDMI. The patent for invention number 8,287,299 B2 is for an “HDMI plug and cable assembly with increased retention features.”
“Like previous patents, this solution directly answers the frustrations of one of our largest customers,” said Jason Skeoch, CEO, All Systems Broadband. “Additionally, we are finding that this new connector has applicability beyond the needs of service providers, and can improve the retention characteristics of any cable or device that plugs into an HDMI receptacle.” he said. Since issuance of the patent, the company has had interest from a number of cable and other manufacturers who view the technology as an opportunity to improve their own product offering.
The patent covers the technology in ASB’s Increased Retention Connector (IRC) HDMI cable. It answers the problem of ensuring the strongest possible HDMI cable to device connection, while not exceeding the pull strength beyond which expensive damage to delicate internal components could occur.
“Today’s consumers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their home entertainment systems,” said Mike Grice, CTO, All Systems Broadband. “The connections between the variety of devices – set top boxes, DVD players, game consoles, etc., are critical to deliver the best overall experience. Similarly, with the proliferation of visual displays throughout all aspects of our everyday lives – airport terminals, classrooms, and even restaurants and sports bars – commercial users are looking for reliable connections that ensure maximum uptime of their devices. All Systems Broadband’s IRC HDMI fills this need.”
