Mountain View, California (EastBayDaily) — Appcelerator®, the leading mobile cloud platform for rapidly developing native mobile, desktop, and tablet applications using web technologies, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner Inc., a premier research and advisory firm, in the Visionary Quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Mobile Consumer Application Platforms” report, published June 22, 2011 by William Clark and Michael J. King.
The report analyzed 20 software development platforms that deliver consumer-facing applications on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Given the business opportunity represented by over 5 billion mobile phones in use worldwide in 2010 (growing to over 6.7 billion connections by 2015), Gartner estimates “the demand by enterprises for mobile web adaptation platforms will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 40% through 2014.” Gartner identifies cross-compilation platforms that generate native or rich application code as a key approach for enterprises delivering mobile B2C applications and content.
“We are pleased that Gartner has recognized Appcelerator as a visionary company. We are dedicated to helping businesses and developers overcome fragmentation in the mobile device market to quickly and cost-effectively deliver cross-platform, cloud-connected rich mobile apps to consumers,” said Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator. “In addition, Appcelerator is the only cross-platform vendor to allow web developers to write both mobile applications and mobile websites, enabling companies to fully leverage their existing internal resources.”
The Appcelerator Titanium platform was one of the first of the newer generation of multi-OS development platforms, promising write-once capabilities across multiple device/OS types. Appcelerator’s approach focuses on exposing the native capabilities of each device, features rapid development cycles, leverages an enterprises’ existing web skills, is fully extensible, and integrates with both internal and external cloud services. Recent enhancements have accelerated the platform beyond simple tooling to a more platform-centric product with mobile web, commerce, social, geo-analytics, user analytics, and messaging capabilities made available to its customers.
