Mountain View, California (EastBayDaily) — Appcelerator®, the leading platform for rapidly developing native mobile, desktop, and iPad applications using web technologies, today announced that it now powers over 4,000 mobile applications in the iPhone and Android app stores. Notably, four apps have hit #1 in their category and major brands like eBay, NBC, MTV, Jaguar, and Budweiser have developed multiple applications on Titanium.
Titanium Powers Top Apps Appcelerator’s traction with developers, agencies, and businesses is increasing at a rapid pace. Over 65,000 developers have built 4,000 iPhone, iPad, and Android apps to date, up from just 500 since General Availability in March. The current pace now exceeds 1,000 new applications per month and the company anticipates that over 10,000 applications will be developed in 2010.
“Since the release of Appcelerator’s all native platform in March, we have seen an exponential increase in the pace of application development,” noted Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator. “Some developers are on their sixth app in just a few months, and several have seen their applications hit the top of the charts.”
Adaptive Blue’s GetGlue is an example of a Titanium-based social mobile app that is seeing runaway success across multiple platforms. Originally a top 20 social networking app on the iPhone, the media check-in application is now available on the Android phone with planned availability on the iPad imminently.
“We made a strategic choice to use Titanium early on,” noted Alex Iskold, CEO of GetGlue. “We wanted rapid, native development and we wanted to deploy to all of the major mobile platforms. With Titanium, GetGlue has a native user experience, real-time check-ins, and social integration with Facebook and Twitter. The iPhone, Android and iPad apps were built by two developers in just two months.”
Other top applications include the #1 iPad reference app (and top 25 overall iPad app), Terminology, the #1 iPad game app (dice), Swarm SG, and the #1 iPad news app, My Newspaper.
Major Brands and Enterprises Using Titanium to Engage Mobile Users Brands are adopting Titanium as well. NBC recently released Jay Leno’s Garage and more Titanium applications are in the works for Fall release. MTV released an avatar-personalization app Jersey Shore Yourself. Budweiser, through its advertising agency and Appcelerator partner Tribal DDB, released Bud Light HFL for the iPhone and Android platforms. Top tier developer Umee built Jaguar: Driven Intelligence to provide on-the-go business information for busy executives.
Appcelerator is also seeing increased interest in mobile business applications. eBay, for example, recently released a beta of its employee iPhone app as an enterprise-wide ‘dashboard’ for its intranet services, including people and conference room directory and internal company communication, such as eBay news, videos, and events. Other popular business applications include SugarCRM, Present.ly, and Personify.
“It’s important for us to keep our 16,000 employees connected and informed wherever they are,” noted Steve Yankovich, Vice-President Mobile, eBay Inc. “Appcelerator enables us to rapidly deploy an employee iPhone application that provides useful content in a secure environment. This increases our mobile team’s operational efficiency and drives down cost.”
Appcelerator will soon unveil a significant platform extension along with other enhancements that add broad functionality to Titanium for rapid, rich, plug-and-play application development and deployment.
