Livermore, California (EastBayDaily) — Bay Area wine tasting venue, Crooked Vine Winery, a family owned winery located in the historic Livermore valley, recently won six medals at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition of American wines in the world.
In line with the competition, The SF Chronicle Wine Competition’s public wine tasting, an annual tradition for enjoying wonderful food and wine, will be held on Feb. 18 at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco from 2 to 5 p.m.
“Winning medals in competitions where we are competing against some of the best not only puts Crooked Vine Winery on the map but also shows that the Livermore Valley is producing wines that can stand up to and surpass those in other areas,” Courtney Garcia, marketing manager of Crooked Vine Winery, said.
Crooked Vine Winery received a gold medal for its 2009 Moxie Blend. The winning blend is composed of 45-percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 33-percent Merlot, 15-percent Cabernet Franc and 7-percent Petite Verdot. Tasting notes include black cherry, cassis, and raspberry fruit with cedar and chocolate, as well as roast coffee notes from the barrels. The blend is aged in 100-percent French oak. Crooked Vine uses grapes from its estate vineyard, Del Arroyo, for all its wines.
The winery’s other winning wines included the 2010 Fume Blanc and 2008 Petite Sirah, both received silver; and the 2009 Petit Verdot, 2009 Cabernet Franc and 2010 Chardonnay, all received bronze.
