Berkeley, California (EastBayDaily) — Berkeley's home-away-from-home restaurant, Le Bateau Ivre Restaurant harnesses an old world European ambiance with an exquisite banquet hall, creating the ideal venue for private dining and weekend brunch menu. During June, Le Bateau Ivre Restaurant is thrilled to offer a series of musical events for its loyal patrons.
On June 6, celebrate the music of Hungary and Romania with Danubius, featuring guest vocalist and soprano Litz (“The Opera Lady”) Plummer. The members of Danubius have lived in and studied the music of Hungary and Romania, and employ that background and such instruments as the Hungarian concert-size cimbalom (hammered dulcimer) and Romanian fluier (flute) to present the deeply soulful melodies and dances of Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia and Russia. These performances are given in traditional ethnic forms but are enlivened by the performing artists' interpretative vitality. The result is an emotive tapestry of sounds that preserves the distinct character of each musical style, including regional Gypsy music.
On June 13, enjoy the Greek culture with songs from HeleNicks. Nick Garis and The HeleNicks will play without amplification, the way Greek folk music has been played for centuries. They will play music from all parts of Greece: island songs, Macedonian tavern songs and kandathes (love songs). They also play dance music from many parts of Greece by utilizing two violins, a guitar, a mandolin, a vocalist and a dubec. The HeleNicks have been playing together for years and have played at almost all Greek festivals in Northern California.
Finally, on June 20, listen and enjoy the musical stylings of Mary Ellen and the Quartz Crystals. In concert, Mary Ellen and the Quartz Crystals present a unique blend of jazz vocals and instrumentals accompanied by Middle Eastern percussion jazz standards, such as “Night in Tunisa,” “Nearness of You,” “Caravan” and “I Only Have Eyes For You.”
"All shows start at 7 p.m. and finish at 9 p.m." Arlene Giordano of Le Bateau Ivre Restaurant said. "There's no cover charge, but be sure to come in early for your choice of seats."
