Brian McRae of HDR Remodeling in the East Bay Takes Part in the Bay Lights Installation

Berkeley, California (EastBayDaily) — Brian McRae, the production manager at HDR Remodeling, is taking a sabbatical from the East Bay home remodeling company to take part in the Bay Lights installation, a light sculpture art installation on the west span of the Bay Bridge. McRae is joining the project as a crew supervisor until its completion in early 2013, when the grand lighting will take place. The projects honors the Bay Bridge’s 75th anniversary.

"We are very proud of Brian for having been selected to lead the installation of this exciting addition to the San Francisco cityscape," Jim Tibbs, the vice president and creative director of HDR Remodeling, said.

McRae was selected for the special assignment because of his strong project and people management skills. He will return to the company after the Bay Lights installation is completed.

Using 25,000 energy-efficient, white LED lights, the display is 500-feet high and 1.8-miles wide, and will shine from dusk to midnight for two years. The sheer size of the project will ensure that it is visible from San Francisco, but it will not be visible to drivers along the bridge. The power used by the light bulbs will be offset by solar credits for the least environmental impact, and only $11,000 per year is allocated to energy costs. It is expected to add approximately $97 million dollars to the local economy.

Artist Leo Villarreal will use patterns of weather, the water, and the traffic of cars, ships and wildlife as inspiration for creating his software algorithms. The patterns will never repeat.
