Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — As part of its sponsorship of Vator's inaugural two-day tech conference and startup competition in Oakland, Butterfield Speaks has brought in local communications expert, Andrew Hurteau, to provide presentation skills coaching to the finalists in the Vator Splash Oakland competition. Butterfield Speaks is a national communication and presentation consulting firm based in San Francisco.
Vator, one of the largest business networks dedicated to entrepreneurs and investors, is hosting its popular Splash competition and 1,000-person conference to Oakland’s Jack London Market on May 6-7 (8:30 to 5:30 pm).
Andrew Hurteau, who frequently travels across the country to teach public speaking skills, says he is thrilled to support this event highlighting the growth of innovation in his home town.
"I love helping people tell their story, especially when it's people on the cutting edge," says Hurteau. “They are on the cusp of success, they're full of energy and they live for what they do. These people are a lot like the city of Oakland: striving for success and celebrating positive change, infinite possibilities and the entrepreneurial spirit."
The event kicks off with a welcome message by Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, followed by a Fireside Keynote with entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist Mitch Kapor and a Keynote by MC Hammer, an Oakland native and renowned entertainer and entrepreneur. Then over two days, the event will showcase promising startups pitching their ideas to top notch investors, angels and entrepreneurs in the tech ecosystem. Past winners have raised $150-plus million in follow-on funding in the last four years. Some speakers and judges include: Bambi Francisco (Vator), James Freeman (Founder & CEO of Blue Bottel), Danny Kennedy, (Founder of Sungevity), Ben Ling (Khosla Ventures), Jeff Clavier (SoftTech VC), Patrick Chung (NEA), Tim Draper (Draper University, DFJ), Josh Stein (DFJ), Robert Scoble (Rackspace), Rebecca Lynn (Morgenthaler), Sharon Wienbar (Scale Venture Partners), Jed Katz (Javelin Venture Partners), and some of Oakland's top VCs, such as Wes Selke/Rick Moss (Better Ventures), Erik Moore (Base VC), Cindy Padnos (Illuminate Ventures) and many, many more.
