Cancer Patient’s Mother Wants to Help Others to Fight in Oprah’s New Show

Mountain View, California (EastBayDaily) — Seven-year-old Kayla was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on January 4th, 2008. Due to many complications she went into a whirlwind of medical nightmare.

In order to help Kayla, her mother Debra spent hundreds of hours doing research to understand the disease, chemo, side effects and how to minimize it, hygiene, and so on. She often finished her research more depressed than when she started. Why? Because she did not believe the many sites that offered alternate cures and the medical sites were lacking in really useful information to help her fight the cancer.

With a strong drive to help her daughter, Debra managed to distill the useful treatments from the sea of information about “Alternative methods”. She worked with Kayla’s oncologist and always obtained his approval before applying the treatments.

After two and a half years of day-to-day struggle to combat the disease, Kayla is recently tested cancer free!

Debra feels that her knowledge of combining medical with alternatives can be useful for other patients as well. She started a website ( to share her knowledge. Debra said in her introduction:

"This website is a labor of love. It is a work in progress… a potpourri of personal experiences, hours of research, and trial and error, in my day-to-day struggle to combat the cancer that threatens my young daughter’s life."

One of the tips she share is the use of Totobobo mask for flu prevention:

"Kayla has worn Totobobo mask every day to attend school since January 2009. She has not been sick despite being immune compromised. When Kayla did not have the mask and went to school she ended up in the hospital for two weeks.”

Now YOU can empower Debra to reach out to more patients by voting her on the new Oprah Winfrey Network.
