Communicating From Design Through Construction With BIM is Next AIA CES Online Course at DesignRealized

Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — The next course in the 2013 DesignRealized AIA Continuing Education Series is Communicating from Design through Construction with BIM scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, at 12pm Pacific/3pm Eastern. This online course, which qualifies for one AIA CES Learning Unit, will examine how Hensel Phelps Construction Co. uses BIM and how they prefer to work with designers in a value added approach.

Speakers from Hensel Phelps Construction Co. are Greg Gidez, AIA, DBIA, Corporate Director of Preconstruction, Thai Nguyen, Corporate BIM Manager, and Ryan Martorano, Chief Estimator. Together they will discuss the importance of integrating the design and construction team to truly implement BIM. They will cover how an owner uses a BIM Project Execution Plan, how contractors use the model for cost and schedule analysis, and how to structure a model for optimum performance.

“For BIM to be most effective designers, contractors and consultants must all collaborate and communicate,” says Thomas M. Simmons, curriculum developer. “This program will focus on the contractors perspective and open up a dialogue about how all participants can work together as a team instead of in silos.”

The 2013 DesignRealized AIA CES Education program consists of 24 courses split into three series: Blogs to BIM: Technology in Practice; Adaptive Reuse & Renovation, and Eco-Responsible Design 2030. Speakers for these programs are leading architects, consultants and contractors from such firms as HOK, Perkins + Will and the DLR Group.
