Degenkolb Engineers Honored with American Council of Engineering Award for Using ConXtech’s Innovative Connections at Stanford Law School

Hayward, California (EastBayDaily) — On February 7, 2012, Degenkolb Engineers' structural team was presented the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Engineering Excellence Honor Award for Stanford University’s new William H. Neukom Law Building. Completed in May, 2011, the building is a $40 million, 65,000 square-foot, 3-story academic and office facility. Degenkolb Engineers used ConXtech’s ConXL Chassis Based Modular® framing system for the project.

The ConXL System was selected for its structural robustness and overall efficiency. “The building is efficient, smart, flexible, welcoming and was value-engineered to reduce overall environmental impact” notes Holly Razanno, SE, and a Principal at Degenkolb. “By using this trailblazing application, Degenkolb reduced the need for expensive and time-consuming field welding, providing an energy-efficient solution, significantly lowering associated costs, and reducing the need for labor in the field.”

“This was the first application of ConXtech’s technology in a university environment in the United States, and we were honored to have Stanford be the first” states Kelly Luttrell, ConXtech’s, Co-Founder and VP Business Development.

For years, ConXtech has worked closely with Stanford, hosting students and professors from the University’s Engineering, Architectural Design and Construction Management departments, at ConXtech’s R&D and Manufacturing facility in Hayward. Luttrell continues “In addition to working with entire classes at Stanford, we have participated on many levels with Stanford’s Center for Integrated Facilities Management (CIFE), and their pioneering team. It was particularly meaningful to work with a highly regarded firm such as Degenkolb, in bringing our building technology to a University at the forefront of innovation.”

The project, designed by Ennead Architects, satisfies the equivalent of a LEED® Gold Certification by meeting key sustainability requirements in the areas of site planning, water management, energy use, materials, resources, waste, indoor environmental quality, innovation and design. Advanced BIM modeling was used to create a direct manufacturing interface to ConXtech’s highly automated factory, which significantly streamlined design, fabrication and delivery.

About ConXtech Inc.

ConXtech Inc. is a building technology company based in Hayward, CA. The company has developed ConX®, a revolutionary structural steel Chassis Based Modular™ building system which enables rapid delivery of cost efficient and sustainable structures. The company sells a standard set of manufactured Lower and Locking™ connectors and building components, enabling the mass-customization of precise structures or “chassis” to which other factory manufactured building modules can be integrated. When assembled into multi-bay, multi-story structures, the patented connection technology delivers a robust brace-free grid of Special Moment Frames (SMF) ideal for commercial, healthcare, military, high-density residential, data center, institutional and industrial structures for oil & gas industry.

The ConX System reduces time and overall project costs when compared to conventional structures through this systemic approach, enabling owners and developers to predictably build Faster, Better, Safer and Greener™. ConXtech licenses its fabrication technologies, methods and processes to a growing network of certified fabricators and erectors. For more information about ConXtech, visit
