Walnut Creek, California (EastBayDaily) — Diablo magazine has selected six recipients for its annual Threads of Hope Awards: Sam Sirott of the California Cancer and Research Institute help desk in Pleasant Hill, Lisa Klein of Oakland-based Loved Twice, Doug Stewart of Pacheco/Martinez Homeless Outreach, Madison and Mackinsey Mascali of Danville-based Packs With Love, and Sheilah Fish of EarthTeam in Berkeley. All award recipients will all be honored at a private reception on December 6, 2011, at the Orinda Theatre.
For the past 16 years, Diablo has invited readers to nominate exceptional volunteers working for charitable causes in the East Bay for the annual Threads of Hope Awards. After careful consideration of each nominee’s dedication of service, hands-on involvement, and overall impact on the community, a panel of judges representing East Bay businesses and philanthropic organizations chose these six honorees.
The Threads of Hope Awards ceremony recognizes outstanding individuals who selflessly give their time to help others, and in doing so, strengthen the fabric of our community. Diablo magazine expects more than 300 community and business leaders to attend the 2011 Threads of Hope Awards ceremony.
This year’s judging panel consisted of Jessica Aguirre, NBC Bay Area’s weeknight news co-anchor and host of Class Action, a weekly show about education; Mark Flowers, senior vice president and regional director of Wells Fargo The Private Bank; Stephen Lesher, vice president of the Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation, and manager of sustainable development at Shell Oil Company; Karla McCormick, program director of the Volunteer Center of the East Bay; and Carole Wynstra, board president of Diablo Theatre Company.
