Walnut Creek, California (EastBayDaily) — Diablo magazine has been nominated for top honors in the nation-wide City and Regional Magazine Association’s (CRMA) awards competition. Diablo was nominated in the Best Special Issue category for its November 2011 Food Issue. Diablo magazine will be contending for the award with Atlanta, Los Angeles, Texas Monthly, and Washingtonian magazines. Judges named five finalists in most categories and will soon choose one ultimate winner in each. The winners will be announced during the CRMA’s 36th Annual Conference May 19–21 at Caesar’s Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Diablo magazine’s Food Issue has been produced for more than 10 years and is now one of the most anticipated magazine issues in the San Francisco East Bay. Readers nominate their favorite restaurants and in turn the Diablo editors narrow the nominations to the top 14. From there, the most knowledgeable judges in the Bay Area, this side of Top Chef, pick the seven best.
The judges for Diablo’s Food issue include food experts such as Lynne Char Bennett, tasting coordinator and a food and wine staff writer at the San Francisco Chronicle; Ken Berry, co-host of KSFO (560 AM) radio’s food, wine, and travel program; Nicholas Boer, reviewer of East Bay restaurants for the San Francisco Chronicle; Dorothy Calimeris, food writer and chef; Linda Carucci, chef director at the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of California–San Francisco and the author of Cooking School Secrets for Real World Cooks; Narsai David, food and wine editor for KCBS radio; as well as a host of several other well-known food writers and critics in the area.
“We’re very honored to be selected for this prestigious award,” states Barney Fonzi, group publisher for Diablo Publications. “This exemplifies the great work that Diablo’s edit and art team carry out every day to create such outstanding publications for our readers.”
