Dublin, California (EastBayDaily) — Providing a personal trainer and running coach services throughout Dublin and Danville, The Fit Potato is partnering with Dublin Personal Trainer this summer for their first shoe drive. This project is for the benefit of Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization based in Nashville that distributes shoes to disadvantaged individuals around the world.
“Why throw away a pair of shoes that can be useful to someone that really needs them?” Francisco Gomez of The Fit Potato said. “I know I have thrown away countless pairs of shoes because I don’t have anywhere to take them to.”
The Fit Potato and Dublin Personal Trainer will take $20 off their services for all clients who donate an old pair of shoes. Those shoes will then go to Soles4Souls, which has delivered more than 17 million pairs of shoes since its founding in 2005.
Running shoes are never completely worn or ripped because as the cushion is beginning to diminish, it’s time to get new ones to prevent injuries. Most runners buy new running shoes every three to six months to prevent injuries, so why not create a fundraiser in which people can donate their shoes, not feel guilty and at the same time, save money on personal training or running coaching.
“The summer is the time when everyone wants to get out of the house and be more active,” Gomez said. “Summer is also the time when everyone buys new shoes to be able to be more active, so we created an incentive to get people to donate their old pair to a great cause as they get in shape.”
