Berkeley, California (EastBayDaily) — East Bay interior designer, Kristina Wolf Design recently partnered with Free the Girls, a non-profit organization that supports rescued female victims of sex trafficking in Africa, as a way to broaden the meaning of community and generosity this New Year.
“The holidays are a perfect time for reflection and gratitude,” Kristina Wolf said. “We are conscious of the enormous good fortune we have had in 2011, so we would like to give back in 2012.”
Free the Girls provides the opportunity for female victims of sex trafficking to mend their lives and start anew. The organization does not simply give cash donations to these women and leave them to sink or swim on their own; rather, it empowers these women by giving them the means and assistance they need to establish their own small businesses and subsequently support themselves autonomously.
The focal campaign of Free the Girls is the bra drive, which calls for women around the world to donate their used brassieres to supply inventory for the victims’ second-hand clothing businesses. Bras have also been proven by the program to be popular items in the used clothing business, with some women taking home a profit that is five times the minimum wage in their area.
One hundred percent of donations go directly to the job-creation projects of Free the Girls. To support the effort, Kristina Wolf Design will sponsor a bra drive in the upcoming year to further raise awareness in the East Bay area, and to gather both monetary and brassiere donations for the campaign.
Kristina Wolf Design encourages Bay Area women to help make a difference for their sisters in Africa. To make a donation directly to Free the Girls, or to volunteer and/or receive more information, visit http://www.freethegirls.com.
