Fremont Micro Devices Announces Two LED Reference Designs

Fremont, California (EastBayDaily) — Fremont Micro Devices USA Inc. announced two new application examples for the FT838RNA. The FT838RNA facilitates the design of AC/DC LED driver applications. The LED current can be accurately regulated by sensing the primary side information with a few external components without the need for an opto-coupler and TL431. The integrated under Voltage Lockout, Leading Edge Banking and built-in cable compensation functions offer the user a high efficiency and low cost solution for LED lighting products like bulb and spotlight applications.

The reference designs enable 1-3W or 3-5W designs for LED lighting products. “The FT838RNA application examples enable designers to quickly develop and evaluate 1-3W or 3-5W LED designs. The design tools include a functional evaluation board plus the schematic and bill of materials for the design. These tools accelerate time to market because the evaluation board is fully functional and debugged,” said Shu Min Panfil, Director of Corporate Communications, for Fremont Micro Devices USA. “The schematic includes the structure of the bobbin with winding requirements a wiring circuit diagram and electrical specifications,” she added.

The FT838RNA has an integrated bipolar junction transistor (NPN) which enables LED Driver Designs with a higher than 22uA stand by current. The low operating current reduces the Vcc hold up capacitance requirement. The extremely low start-up and operating current reduces power consumption which improves system reliability.

The FT838RNA in a SOP-8 package has a list price of $0.10 for volume orders of 10ku.

The reference designs are available from stock.
