Berkeley, California (EastBayDaily) — Elroy Bluetooth earbuds are the latest success story to hit the crowdfunding market. Reaching its $30,000 funding goal in just eight hours, then surpassing its first stretch goal of $130,000, Elroy now has its latest stretch goal set to $150,000. Currently, the Bluetooth device is just $20,000 short of its new goal with just 48 hours remaining in the funding campaign.
Many people use earbuds while working out, riding bikes, or going about their day; but the cord is often long enough to get tangled around them and their clothes. Elroy aims to disentangle users from the cumbersome earbud cord by getting rid of the lower 2/3 of the cord, and replacing it with a Bluetooth unit that clips to a user’s clothing. Weighing a little less than two U.S. quarters, wearers will easily forget they’re wearing the device which also serves as a remote control for any Bluetooth enabled mobile device. Those with their phone docked, listening to music can easily skip tracks or change volume settings using Elroy.
Not only does Elroy eliminate tangled cords and add functionality to a user’s digital lifestyle, but it also provides a magnetic docking station for earbuds when they’re not in use. Elroy's patent pending, magnetic docking points offer a convenient and secure location to keep earbuds untangled, and quickly available while cooking, running, cycling, driving or going about daily life. Have an incoming call? Simply remove an earbud from the docking station and Elroy will answer the call.
For $89, supporters of the campaign will receive the Elroy Bluetooth device with shorty cord earbuds. This reward level is everything user’s need to get the annoying earbud cord out of the way. Prior to shipping, backers will be able to select the colors and style they choose. However, Rob Honeycutt, Founder of Elroy and Timbuk2, is offering a number of other rewards in return for supporting his project. These rewards range anywhere from $10-$1,000.
“To help us along the road, we’re offering a few extra perks everyone can add to their current pledge,” says Honeycutt. “If just one-in-six of our backers had just one friend who came on to pledge, we'd make our stretch goal with ease.”
With almost 1,500 backers, this is no small feat, but Honeycutt has proven the product has what it takes to achieve almost anything. Because the product has been so successful, Honeycutt has also introduced some last minute, add-on rewards such as wall chargers, extra long charger cords, second sets of earbuds and more. Existing supporters can just add these rewards onto their pledge total.
