Legal and Management Aspects of IPD, BIM, VDC are Covered in Design Realized Event Hosted by Over 25 AIAs Nationwide


Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — LearnVirtual’s new DESIGN [realized] education series starts July 22, 2011, with a three-hour education program focused on the Legal and Management Aspects of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). Beginning at 9 a.m. Pacific, this event is hosted by over 25 Chapters of the American Institute of Architects from around the United States.

“Architects, engineers, contractors and building owner’s are equally concerned with the legal implications surrounding IPD and VDC,” says Tony Rinella, the curriculum developer for DESIGN [realized]. “To bring focus and clarity to this important topic, we have gathered a group of leading legal and insurance experts to discuss recommended approaches to adopt and pitfalls to avoid when engaging in contractual agreements related to IPD building projects.”

Speakers at the July 22 event are:     Suzanne Harness, ESQ., AIA, with Harness Project Solutions, is both a licensed architect and a construction attorney with more than 30 years of experience in the design and construction industry. Ms. Harness will discuss the management aspects of IPD building projects, including issues related to VDC and BIM.     Lisa Dal Gallo, Partner, Hanson Bridgett LLP, has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked professionally for one of the largest general contractors in the world. Ms. Dal Gallo will cover legal issues related to IPD and VDC.     Martin Andrejko, National Underwriting Director – Professional Liability, with Zurich North America has worked in the insurance industry for nearly 20 years focusing on risk control and underwriting. Mr. Andrejko will cover insurance products related to IPD, BIM, and VDC.

AIA Chapters and other groups have partnered with LearnVirtual to bring this DESIGN [realized] event to communities around the U.S. With this multi-venue education program, speakers will present from a “home” city, and their presentations will be web cast simultaneously to venues across the U.S. Local venues will have facilitators to moderate group knowledge-sharing discussions.
