Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Lincoln University held its annual charity barbecue on July 12. The event, held at Alameda Beach, was aimed at strengthening the University’s lasting commitment to the local community while providing an opportunity for friendly socializing between a diverse community of students, faculty and staff.
During the event, students organized a drive to benefit local food banks, donating the proceeds from the event to the Salvation Army programs.
In the words of one of the student organizers, Ahmad Refaat, “Knowing that we as students are able to help those in need, even if just a little bit, simply makes an event like this much more fun and fulfilling.”
Members of faculty expressed confidence that this type of active engagement with local community serves a greater educational purpose of providing students with a mindset, attuned to the problems of the society, which is desperately needed in the modern world of business.
