Announces Winner of the Spring 2013 Textbooks for a Year College Scholarship Essay Contest

San Leandro, California (EastBayDaily) — Textbook buyback company has announced that the winner of their Spring 2013 Textbooks for a Year Scholarship essay contest $1,250 grand prize is Savannah Lim. Ms. Lim, who will be an undergraduate student at New York University this Fall where she will study computer science and media, wrote the award winning essay which will enable her to pay for textbooks for an entire year.

Students have been a fundamental base for MyBookBuyer's business since their inception, which has roots dating back to 1999. Although the site continues to buy all types of books, including children’s, fiction and nonfiction and other genres, there always remains a special relationship between MyBookBuyer and the students who need to a place to sell their used textbooks for cash.

"From the start, my vision has always incorporated a steadfast commitment to students by offering to pay them fair prices, along with providing strong customer service that further differentiates us from the other buyback sites,” says company founder Michael Der. “I truly believe that’s a strong component as to why many of them continue to keep coming back to MyBookBuyer,"

MyBookBuyer has been in the textbook buyback industry for over a decade. During this time, they have witnessed the cost of textbooks continuing to escalate at an alarming rate that is even rising faster than inflation. As education budgets continue to be cut, and the economic downturn continues to negatively impact many parts of the country, these factors continue to create a financial hardship which makes pursuing education a struggle for many students. Often times, students need to sell their textbooks for cash immediately when textbook buyback season starts in order to help themselves put together enough money to prepare for the next semester.

In response to this need and as a way of giving back, Mr. Der, decided to help the students who come to the site to sell their textbooks for cash, by creating the MyBookBuyer Textbooks for a Year Scholarship Essay Contest. This contest was created with the purpose to provide the winning student with enough money to buy textbooks for a whole year with the $1,250 Grand Prize cash award.

The Fall 2012 Textbooks for a Year Scholarship essay contest was open to all College and University students, ages 18 and older, and who are legal residents of the United States. Savannah Lim’s prize-winning essay expresses her love for the writing of acclaimed American poet and novelist, Sylvia Plath. The contest essay question asked participants to “Name one published author whom you greatly admire and write about some of the reasons why”. She detailed how Sylvia Plath inspires her to continue being curious, to keep searching for answers, and to have the courage to set goals that reach for the stars. These observations, among other meaningful appreciations expressed for her artistry with words, were eloquently expressed by Ms. Lim in her essay.

This successfully completes the seventh essay contest, which has been conducted by MyBookBuyer, as they continue to make a difference for the winners of the Scholarship by helping students who come to the textbook buyback site. The essay contest is an ongoing scholarship opportunity which is available twice each semester year, once in the Fall and then again, in the Spring. allows anyone with a computer to easily sell textbooks online for cash.
