Needy Seniors to Feel the Cuts to Meals on Wheels Programs

Walnut Creek, California (EastBayDaily) — Over 750 home bound seniors rely on the Meals on Wheels delivery every day from Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services. 200 other, primarily low-income seniors visit one of six C.C. Cafes for a nutritious, hot meal Monday – Friday. For many, the lunch meal is the only meal of the day.

The looming budget cuts may force cut backs in the number of people served and meals provided. Figures will be approximately 5%, with additional cuts anticipated in July. Unfortunately, the bulk of the cuts will affect services to low-income seniors, many who rely on the meals delivered for their only meal of the day.

The Huffington Post article explains how Meals on Wheels will be affected. [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/27/sequestration-cuts-meals-on-wheels_n_2767440.html.
