Pleasanton, California (EastBayDaily) — NextWindow, the world’s leading provider of optical touch screens for desktop PCs and monitors, today announced a new addition to the list of all-in-one (AIO) computers powered by NextWindow. Japanese electronics manufacturer NEC has launched the ValueStar W, an AIO computer with a 21.5″ touch screen. NEC’s first multi-touch AIO computer, the ValueStar W currently is available only in Japan.
The AIO computer category is a fast-growing segment of the desktop PC market. Two weeks ago, Hewlett-Packard introduced the TouchSmart 300, 600 and dx9000, HP’s third generation of AIO computers. And earlier this month Sony and German PC maker Medion each launched a new AIO desktop PC. NextWindow touch screens are used in all of these products, as well as the Dell Studio One 19 AIO. Independent research firm Gartner is forecasting that the number of AIOs shipped with a screen size greater than 16″–where optical touch screen technology is ideal–will double from 2009 to 2010.
“The AIO desktop PC market is hot and touch technology is a key reason,” said Al Monro, CEO at NextWindow. “All-in-one PCs have become attractive consumer appliances, and users appreciate the convenience factor: touching a computer screen to access content frequently is faster and more practical than sitting down to use a mouse and keyboard. The launch of Windows 7 combined with the plethora of new AIO desktop PCs from leading manufacturers was important stimulus for consumers, whom we expect will gravitate to AIOs at an increasingly fast pace in the coming months and years.”
