NextWindow Extends Leadership in Optical Touch Screen Technology with Addition of New Patents to its IP Portfolio

Pleasanton, California (EastBayDaily) — NextWindow, the world’s leading provider of optical touch screens for desktop PCs, monitors and large-format displays, today announced the addition of two technology patents to its intellectual property portfolio. The first patent, which refers to a fundamental optical touch screen technology, was filed in 1992. The second patent, which focuses on the processing of touch locations in an optical touch screen, is the product of a research and development investment NextWindow made in 2003.

The two patents – U.S. Patent 5,317,140 and U.S. Patent 7,629,967, respectively – are the latest additions to an expanding patent portfolio that began for NextWindow in 2000. NextWindow previously was granted patents for its optical touch screen technology in the U.S., China and Australia, and several other patents relating to its optical touch screen technology are pending throughout the world.

NextWindow has leveraged its expansive patent portfolio to secure a leadership position in the emerging market for optical touch screens used in desktop PCs, monitors and large-format displays. Optical is a preferred technology for many of the latest and most advanced consumer electronics products, including all-in-one PCs from Dell, Medion, NEC and Sony, all of whom use NextWindow touch screens.

“Expanding our patent portfolio is a top priority, and we will continue to make investments in this area,” said Al Monro, CEO at NextWindow. “We are well aware that the world’s largest PC makers are monitoring the optical touch screen market to determine which vendors are best positioned to supply them in the years to come. By investing significant time and resources in the development of our patent portfolio we are demonstrating that NextWindow is an innovator in the optical touch screen market and that we are committed to serving and driving this market for a very long time.”
