Oakland Museum Store Acquires Diallo Mwathi Jeffery’s Limited Edition Photography

Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — The Oakland Museum made an acquisition of Diallo Mwathi Jeffery’s photographic work for its gift shop in March 2015, following the success of its December 2014 Holiday Trunk Show, in which Jeffery exhibited his distinctive panoramic cityscape photography of the Oakland – San Francisco Bay Area.

The Oakland Museum store is offering a select number of framed original limited edition 13 x 19 inch fine art photographic renderings of Jeffery’s iconic “Crescent Moon at the Bay,” and note card prints of other works Jeffery has rendered of his beloved Oakland.

"I am grateful that my artwork would be of interest to the Oakland Museum of California, an institution that has continued to inspire me since my early childhood,” says Jeffery.

Jeffery’s photography has been exhibited by SLATE Contemporary at Visit Oakland, Joyce Gordon Gallery, PHOTO Fine Art and Oakland City Hall.

A native of Oakland, Jeffery nurtured his adolescent love for photography, refining his eye for still and motion photography through experimentation, developing a disciplined approach for capturing expressive subject matter with high technical precision.

Jeffery captures uncommon perspectives of his dramatic cityscapes and sunsets in crisp detail, meticulously rendering intricate textures and color that seems to leap from the paper. “I feel a responsibility to the historical record of my subject, to capture and render it in the authenticity and truth I witness in that moment,” Jeffery said.

Jeffery is a graduate of Oakland High School, and Morehouse College in Atlanta. He studied motion-photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and teaches photography and filmmaking to students in public schools. Jeffery was a 2005 winner of the Best Student Filmmaker Award for the Berkeley Film Festival, as well as the 2009 WAVE Award for Promoting Civic Engagement through Community Media.

Jeffery says of his work, “I am compelled to capture moments that inspire me so that I may share them with others. When you glimpse Oakland in its true light, you can understand why so many people love our town.”

Signed original limited edition prints of Diallo Mwathi Jeffery's “Crescent Moon at the Bay” are on sale at the Oakland Museum of California gift shop at 1000 Oak St, in Oakland, California.
