Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Woodminster Summer Musicals, Oakland’s most renowned musical theater organization, will be opening auditions for actors of all ages for its 46th Season, which will feature productions of “Fiddler on the Roof,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “Cats.” General auditions will be held from March 31 to April 1, while auditions for Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) members will be held by appointment after March 20.
“We think our audience will be very excited about this season. ‘Fiddler’ is a perennial audience favorite and one of the all-time great musicals. ‘Forum’ is just the kind of hilarious comedy people are looking for in hard times, and people have been asking for ‘Cats’ for years — we're thrilled that we could at last secure the license to present it,” said Harriet Schlader, managing director of Woodminster Summer Musicals.
The organization has produced three or more live performances each summer at the Woodminster Amphitheater for more than 40 years. The three shows selected for this year were based on audience requests. Woodminster’s 2012 season will open with “Fiddler on the Roof,” from July 13 to 22; followed by “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” from Aug. 10 to 19; and the musical phenomenon “Cats,” from Sept. 7 to 16.
Tickets are $26 to $53, with a $2 discount for seniors. Children aged 16 and below who are attending with paying adults may receive their tickets for free (limitations apply). Season tickets for all three shows are available now and cost 15 percent less than single-ticket prices. Groups of 25 or more can purchase seats for half the price. After March 1, reserved tickets will be released, and season and general admission ticket orders will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
