Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Oakland nonprofit accounting specialist Nonprofit Suite congratulates Pat Morrin on becoming the new Board Chairperson at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland, as of January, 2012. Nonprofit Suite has worked closely with the Oakland community service organization, which is dedicated to developing youth into positive contributors to society, since being selected to provide nonprofit accounting services by the current Board Chairperson, Mark Seiler. The two organizations will continue to work together after the upcoming change in leadership.
“Mark has been a dedicated leader of the Board these last two years. It was his strategic insight that led us to hire Nonprofit Suite as our accounting partners,” says Cal Stanley, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland.
Nonprofit Suite, an Oakland nonprofit bookkeeping company, was chosen by Seiler as the accounting services provider for Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland because the company is solely dedicated to serving nonprofit clients, and can therefore offer an unrivaled level of expertise on the increasingly complex administrative and regulatory challenges faced by nonprofit organizations.
“In these difficult economic times, it has been more important than ever to know our accounting is complete and accurate. Bringing on Nonprofit Suite to do our books has meant we know where we stand and can focus our attention on the kids,” says Mark Seiler, current Board Chairperson of Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland provides essential services including youth empowerment, mentorship, tutoring, scholarships, anti-drug education, health screenings, arts training, physical fitness, and much more. The goal of Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland is to serve at least 10% of local schoolchildren, with an emphasis on children from disadvantaged circumstances. Cuts to education and a rise in poverty have placed a burden on many local families, making the services of Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland more essential than ever in the coming year.
Budget shortfalls at the state level could cause up to $1.4 billion in cuts to public education and the elimination of seven school days. Five Oakland elementary schools are slated for closure in 2012, which critics say will disproportionately affect poor and minority students. Nearly 3 in 10 Oakland children are living in poverty, a 50% increase over the pre-recession level. Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland will focus on fighting the negative impact these factors will have on the children.
“Our goal is to take care of the numbers, so the people of Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland can focus on their important work of helping provide a bright future for Oakland children,” says Annette Cook, owner of Nonprofit Suite.
“Annette has been great to work with and her team has improved our reporting tremendously. When Pat becomes Board Chair in January, he has good information at his fingertips,” declares Stanley.
Pat Morrin is a former Manager of Marketing and Business Development at Intel Corporation and founder of Basis Communications Corp. He has been the Treasurer of Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland for two years.
