Oakland Theater Performances Woodminster Summer Musicals Proudly Presents “Fiddler on the Roof”

Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Presenting its 45th season of live performances and theater productions, Oakland’s Woodminster Summer Musicals is proud to feature “Fiddler on the Roof,” one of the most internationally popular productions based on Sholem Sleichem’s short story. Scheduled to be performed at the Woodminster Amphitheater in Joaquin Miller Park at 8 p.m. from July 13 through July 15 and July 19 through July 22, the performance will present universal themes of tradition, family, love and marriage, resignation, regret, and optimism.

“The universal story of tradition versus change is beautifully told in one of the most famous and popular musicals in Broadway history, ‘Fiddler on the Roof,’” Kathy Kahn of Woodminster Summer Musicals said. “The tale of Tevye and his daughters is set in a poor Jewish village in Czarist Russia in the early years of the 20th century. The characters are honest, funny and memorable, while songs like ‘Sunrise, Sunset,’ ‘If I Were A Rich Man’ and ‘Matchmaker’ help tell this dramatic story in the best tradition of American Musical Theater.”

A preview of the Oakland musical theater performance is available on July 12 at 8 p.m. The Oakland live performance is directed by Joel Schlader and choreographed by Jody Jaron, with musical direction by Richard Vetterli, vocal direction by Trente Morant, sets by Gary Barten, lights by Michael Barney, and costume coordination and props by Christina Weiland. “Fiddler on the Roof” is produced by arrangement with Music Theatre International.

About Woodminster Summer Musicals

Woodminster Summer Musicals are performed under the stars at Woodminster Amphitheater, an open-air performance facility in Joaquin Miller Park High in the Oakland Hills. For many East Bay families, it is a long-standing summer tradition to enjoy a picnic in the park and then see a musical at Woodminster. For more than four decades, Producers Associates, in partnership with the Oakland Park and Rec Department, has produced summer musicals at Woodminster Amphitheater. Today more people attend Woodminster Summer Musicals than any other resident performing arts company in Oakland.
