Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Dorsey’s Locker in Oakland announces it was given a formal mention and recognition by Hon. Barbara Lee before the 112th U.S. Congress on July 30. This was to honor the restaurant’s 70th anniversary and its unique role of providing a venue that serves authentic soul food, as well as presenting artists, comedians and diverse music to their customers.
“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the 70th anniversary of the Dorsey family’s service to the greater Bay Area, and their historic soul food restaurant Dorsey’s Locker, which has become an important cultural institution within the African-American community in Oakland,” said Hon. Barbara Lee of California.
Hon. Lee presented a plaque to Dorsey’s and Associates, Inc. President/CEO Donald Dorsey, along with the other family associates and investors, commemorating the formal mention and recognition of Dorsey’s and its Texas-style soul food that it has been serving since 1941. It was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Wilma before being sold in 1986. The restaurant was reopened in 1996 and is currently owned by Dorsey & Associates, Inc., Donald Dorsey is the principal investor. Oakland’s Dorsey’s Locker features soul food specials while providing diners with live entertainment such as poetry, comedy, karaoke, and Jazz and R&B performances. For more than 70 years, Dorsey’s Locker has provided great food and a great place to dine for its patrons.
