Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Meet Oaksterdam University face-to-face and learn about an education and job opportunities in the cannabis industry at Oakland Veteran Job Fair starting at 11:00am today, November 29, in Oakland, CA. The general public can learn more about the event or register to attend at https://events.recruitmilitary.com/events/oakland-veteran-job-fair-november-29-2012
The event is held today in the East Side Club on the club level from 11:00am until 3:00pm at O.co Coliseum, located on 7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland, CA 94621 . Many job opportunities exist for skilled laborers, electricians and plumbers, as well as ancillary fields such as communications, social networking, photography, marketing, real estate, janitorial, transportation or insurance. An individual does not necessarily need to become a medical marijuana patient to find employment in the marijuana industry, nor do you need to grow or consume cannabis. Veterans already have many required skills, but simply need quality training in a new industry.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has formally allowed patients treated at its hospitals and clinics where medical marijuana is legal since the summer of 2010, effectively deferring to the states.
“The men and women who serve in the United States military deserve the honor, respect and thanks of a grateful nation. While no single act can truly thank those who served, we can provide them with education leading to better quality of life and opportunity here at home. It is unpatriotic to deny veterans the very medication that helps them most, and then criminalize it,” said Dale Sky Jones, Oaksterdam University’s Executive Chancellor and owner, who recently announced the formation of the Veterans Freedom Fighter Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship fund will help to fulfill this promise with financial aid options to help returning veterans define their own success at home by preparing them to succeed with Oaksterdam University's multifaceted curriculum. Veterans receive vital education about how to be safe and responsible under state law, take control of their medication for pain management and mental health, develop skills for successful police encounters, and find employment.
For Veterans interested in receiving Freedom Fighter Scholarship benefits, the application process will begin at http://www.oaksterdamuniversity.com in January 2013. America’s first cannabis college was founded in 2007 to provide students with the highest quality training for the cannabis industry. Since opening its doors, over 15,000 have gained important skills for success.
Oaksterdam University kicked off the Freedom Fighter Scholarship Fund by sponsoring 25% of tuition for any US Veteran that enrolls; Veterans are seeking remaining tuition assistance from private donors and companies for job training. Companies and private donors can contribute to the Freedom Fighter Scholarship Fund at http://www.indiegogo.com/ouvets. Fund recipients will be selected through self-nomination and Veteran's organizations submissions beginning in January 2013. The screening process is aided by Not This Time Vets (NTTV) and Veterans for Medical Marijuana Access (VMMA). Upon graduation from the Basic Program or Semester Course from Oaksterdam University, NTTV will assist in job placement.
