Dublin, California (EastBayDaily) — The OSHA Training Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, the only authorized OSHA Training Institute Education Center in Northern California, is now offering a new occupational safety and health certificate training program for public sector employees. Public Sector Safety and Health Fundamentals was recently launched by the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration to promote occupational safety and health training for state and local government employees not covered by Federal OSHA* and to address the significantly higher workplace injury rate among workers in state and local governments.
Participants in the new program have the opportunity to earn either a Construction or General Industry Certificate, and can choose from a variety of courses, including occupational safety and health standards, safety and health management, accident investigation, evacuation and emergency planning and health hazard awareness. To earn a safety and health fundamentals certificate, participants must complete a minimum of seven courses, consisting of three required courses plus additional elective courses, totaling at least 68 hours of in-class training.
"This new public sector safety and health certificate initiative is an exciting and welcome addition to our programs," said Julia Dozier, Director of the OSHA Training Center at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. "Our instructors and staff are committed to providing vital safety and health training to workers in all industries, and this new program for public sector employees is an important step forward in our mission to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses and fatalities."
The OSHA Training Center offers both required and elective courses for the Public Sector Safety and Health Fundamentals Certificate Program at its Center in Dublin, California, as well as locations throughout California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and Guam. For more information about the certificate program requirements, see Public Sector Certificate Program for Construction or Public Sector Certificate Program for General Industry.
