Peter C. Bradbury’s Debut Novel, “Stonebridge Manor,” Recalls the Mystery Greats

Brentwood, California (EastBayDaily) — In his debut novel, Stonebridge Manor, Peter C. Bradbury recalls the spirit of Agatha Christie with his colorful cast of characters and choice of location, Stonebridge Manor, an enormous mansion set in the beautiful, rolling English countryside.

A juicy “whodunit” that will keep readers turning the pages in a frenzy until the end, Stonebridge Manor combines fascinating characters and compelling plot twists with colorful thematic elements. The Manor seems to be a character in and of itself, with its long, creepy hallways and mahogany drawing rooms, manned by servants whose personalities and dialogue are fleshed out by Bradbury’s own experience as an English butler.

The main antagonist, Lady Baldwin, is delightfully manipulative and conniving, demanding the utmost loyalty from her servants, while managing to bring them to tears with a few razor sharp words. When she receives her just desserts in a plot twist that is both surprising and intriguing, readers will be compelled to solve the mystery themselves before they reach the last pages.

With each sentence punctuated by witty, dry humor and lush description, Bradbury allows the readers’ own imagination draw them into the mystery. Peppering each side story with the insight of his days as a butler, Bradbury conjures up English high society so effortlessly that readers will feel that they could be reading a tell-all.

When the just desserts have been served—followed by coffee and brandy in the drawing room, of course—and the last page has been turned, readers will, no doubt, be anxiously awaiting the sophomore novel, Prospects, from this promising new author.
