Pittsburg, California (EastBayDaily) — On December 2nd and 17th, the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce will once again be hosting the annual Holiday Nights in Old Town events on Railroad Avenue in Old Town Pittsburg. The event includes a tree-lighting ceremony, holiday parade, unique gifts, carol singing, visits with Santa, and much more.
“We are delighted to assist in bringing this special event back to Pittsburg,” says Meredith Ladich, the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce CEO.
The festivities get started with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on 4th Street & Railroad Ave. on Friday, December 2nd at 5:30 PM. The Holiday Tree will be decorated with hundreds of holiday lights, and the ceremony will be kicked off by the newly appointed mayor, Ben Johnson.
On Saturday, December 17th, everyone is invited to join the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce in celebrating the holiday season with the Holiday Parade in Old Town Pittsburg at 12:00 PM.
“The Holiday Parade is a wonderful event where the community comes together to enjoy the spirit of the holidays,” says Ladich. “Come enjoy the sounds of festive cheer and merriment! We will award 1st place trophies and 2nd & 3rd place ribbons in all categories, and cash awards in the Float/Decorated Vehicle, Drill Team and Musical categories.”
The parade is also a great opportunity to do a little holiday shopping, with local artists and crafts makers on the plaza tempting browsers with lovely holiday treats that help support Pittsburg’s “Shop Local” campaign.
The plaza will be awash in holiday cheer and merriment, including songs by holiday carolers from local schools and choirs, photos with Santa, storytelling at the Railroad Book Depot, cookies and hot cocoa with Mrs. Claus at the Historical Museum on Railroad Ave., and children of all ages dressed in the spirit of the season.
The Holiday Nights in Old Town celebrations showcase the beautiful city as an excellent place to live, work, shop and do business. For many years, the Holiday Parade has been a much anticipated and beloved event, where local schools, groups, and citizens come together to celebrate the wonderful close-knit community.
The Chamber is reaching out to the various businesses, groups, and community members to get involved by helping with fundraising efforts. The goal is to raise $3,000, and the Chamber will match that amount to cover the cost of the holiday celebration. The group that raises the most funds for the event will be recognized by special mention during the parade. If more than $3,000 is raised, the Chamber and participating groups will then donate the additional funds to a family or families in need.
Ladich invites local businesses, associations, and individuals to get in the holiday spirit by helping to raise funds for the Holiday Nights celebration. “We are committed to presenting a wonderful family holiday event on the plaza, and appreciate any assistance and continued support to make this event a success!”
