Mountain View, California (EastBayDaily) — Quboleâ¢, a leading provider of the next generation cloud Big Data platform, is pleased to announce the immediate general availability of Presto-as-a-Service.
Presto, developed by Facebook, is an open source SQL query engine for running real-time analytic queries at petabyte scale against data stored on Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), Amazon Web Services’ S3, HBase, Scribe, relational databases, and other legacy or custom data stores.
“Since we announced our Presto-as-a-Service Alpha Program on Amazon Web Services in January, we’ve seen amazing interest in using it to overcome Big Data processing latencies,” comments Shrikanth Shankar, Vice President of Engineering at Qubole. “We’ve had more than 230 companies sign up for our alpha program and more than a dozen have already completed testing in their production environments.”
With the green light for general availability following its successful Alpha Program, Qubole has impressive results to share with its performance benchmark, which shows 2x to 7.5x increases in query execution speeds over Hive queries on Amazon Web Services’ S3.
Shrikanth Shankar will be on hand at Facebook’s Presto event on May 14th in Menlo Park, California to share additional details on this benchmarking, as well as best practices for working with Presto-as-a-Service. Shrikanth will also offer a demonstration of the platform, including the easy-to-use SQL query composer.
In addition, Qubole is hosting a webinar today, Thursday May 1st, titled 'Real-time Data Queries with Presto & Qubole'. Lead Engineer Siva Narayanan and Solutions Architect Ashish Dubey will present live at 2:00 PM Eastern, demonstrating the new Presto-as-a-Service offering. This webinar will be available on demand in the future as well.
For more information, companies interested Presto-as-a-Service can learn more with a video and additional documentation or by proceeding directly to sign up.
