Berkeley, California (EastBayDaily) — Donkey & Goat Winery (http://www.donkeyandgoat.com)] is holding a Spring Release Party on Saturday March 5 to celebrate their new wines. To showcase the amazing local food and wine culture found in Berkeley, Donkey & Goat has partnered with Chef Sean Baker of Berkeley’s Gather Restaurant. Sean’s market-driven, local menu will be paired to showcase Donkey & Goat’s five new wines:
2008 Fenaughty Syrah, El Dorado, (SRP $35/btl) 2009 Four Thirteen, Red Wine Blend, El Dorado(SRP $32/btl) 2009 The Prospector, Mourvèdre, El Dorado (SRP $27/btl) 2009 Brosseau Vineyard Chardonnay, Chalone (SRP $40/btl) 2010 Grenache Rosé, Isabel’s Cuvée, Mendocino (SRP $18/btl) “Our Spring Release Party celebrates the New Year and our new growing season,” said Jared Brandt, co-proprietor and winemaker of Donkey & Goat. ”This is always an exciting event for me because it provides a first look at our new vintage with the previous harvest’s Grenache Rosé. A traditionally made Rosé from 95 year-old Grenache Gris vines, this is a wine we keep on our table all spring and summer.”
For the Spring Release party, Sean Baker, Esquire Magazine’s 2010 Chef of the Year will source unique, sustainable ingredients to create a market-driven menu highlighting the nuance and subtlety of the Brandt’s food-friendly wines. Sean’s rustic and innovative cooking style is driven by the hard work of the farmers, ranchers, and cheese makers he supports.
“Sean Baker is hugely talented and we are honored to have him and Gather Restaurant in our community. When he agreed to partner with us for the spring release I was literally giddy,” said Tracey Brandt, Donkey & Goat’s co-proprietor and winemaker. “I truly believe together we represent the illustrious history and promising future of Berkeley’s food and wine culture,”
Held March 5 from 12:30 pm -4:30 pm at Donkey & Goat Winery, 2323 B 4th Street, Berkeley, the Spring Release Party will also feature Jazz trio and winery favorite, Michael LaMacchia 3rio.

About Donkey & Goat Winery Named one of five “Winemakers to Watch” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Donkey & Goat (donkeyandgoat.com) is a Berkeley, California based urban winery that specializes in natural winemaking for their Chardonnay and Rhône varietal wines. Read their winemaking manifesto here: http://www.adonkeyandgoat.com/2009/11/our-manifesto.html These distinctive, soulful wines are produced using France’s classic, labor intensive techniques, such as adding “ver jus” (unripe grapes) to acidify Chardonnay, and never using cultivated yeasts, enzymes, nutrients, or color enhancers. Wines are never vinified in plastic, remain “sur lie” (no racking) with low sulphur and are bottled without fining or filtration. The winery was founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Tracey and Jared Brandt, who are the “donkey and goat” behind these sustainably farmed and artfully produced wines.
