Fremont, California (EastBayDaily) — Sonic Manufacturing Technologies today announced the awarding of ISO-13485:2003 certification to both of its Fremont, CA facilities. As a Contract Electronics Manufacturer (CEM) for Medical and other markets; this certification demonstrates Sonics’ commitment to internal and Agency requirements for product quality and safety.
ISO-13485 certification benefits all customers even though its primary intention is the manufacture of medical products: It focuses on risk management. It controls the work environment to support product safety. It specifies requirements for inspection It specifies requirements for traceability. It specifies requirements for documented and validated processes. It verifies the effectiveness of corrective & preventive actions.
As one of the largest capacity Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) providers on the west coast, Sonic provides a large number of OEMs in the Silicon Valley and across the western region of the United States with the fastest NPI and time-to-ramp processes in the industry. Qualifying for ISO-13485 certification demonstrates that speed and process efficiency go hand-in-hand.
Ken Raab, CEO of Sonic stated, "ISO-13485 certification is a great achievement for Sonic and of great value to our existing medical customers. Reducing risk, improving process control and providing traceability have always been important to Sonic. Vetting these out in the formal system with full documentation smoothly supports our customer verification processes and agency compliance."
With the costs of global outsourcing rising, Sonic is successfully nearshoring product back to the United States. Many industries have turned to Sonic for support; including Automotive, Commercial, Energy, Industrial, Lighting, Networking, Solar and Consumer. ISO-13485 certification extends Sonics’ capabilities for rapid-response, high-service manufacturing further into the medical, aerospace, military and “High-Rel” markets.
The Changing Market
OEMs are increasingly squeezed by rising overseas labor & transportation costs and the inherent delays of offshore manufacturing. Many are reevaluating their product costs on a “total-cost” basis; adding in the cost of both offshore support and logistical delivery to the end customer. Sonic is able to provide OEMs with rapid high-engineering support on the front end and lower total costs on sustained production, through the elimination of the extended supply chain. This makes our customers more agile; reducing their inventory and lead time while improving order fulfillment and revenue. ISO-13485 certification enables many additional OEMs to consider these advantages as well as tightening control of their intellectual property and improving collaboration with their manufacturing partners on product & process quality.
