Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — With an eye toward creativity, innovation, and community, The Crucible will host its annual Open House, “The Science of Art,” on Saturday, April 6 from 11AM to 4PM. Crucible guests will journey into its 56,000-square-foot warehouse to deconstruct works of art through science, inquiry, and exploration – and walk away with a one-of-a-kind experience.
“This is an opportunity to explore the processes that are used by artists in creating their work and to understand the relationship between ‘right brain’ and ‘left brain’ thinking,” said Steven Young, Executive Director. “In this event, Art and Science are at play, co-mingling in the creative process.”
Bustling with demonstrations and art shows, “The Science of Art” showcases the breadth and depth of West Oakland’s vibrant maker scene. Between demonstrations such as the Science of Fire and Harmonograph; a molten metal pour in The Crucible’s foundry; and world-class faculty answering questions and discussing various mediums, the event helps guests understand the world in which artists live – and make way for new creativity and innovation.
“West Oakland has a growing population of creative thinkers and makers. This showcase is a way for individuals interested in the maker world to learn more about opportunities available to them, right here in our community,” remarked Young.
Additional highlights include: Bike Sale. The Crucible Bike Shop will showcase a selection of quality used bicycles that have been fully rebuilt by youth and volunteer mechanics. Purchases of these sweet, reliable rides support The Crucible’s Youth Earn-A-Bike Program, Youth Mechanic Program, and Community Bike Fix-A-Thons. Discounts for Student Enrollment: New students who sign up for a spring class during the open house will receive 20% off class tuition. Crucible members will receive a 25% discount.
