Writer Wins $20K Family Reunion Prize from Concannon Vineyard

Livermore, California (EastBayDaily) — Concannon Vineyard today announced that Alexander Wilson, fiction and comic freelance writer based in Raleigh, NC is the winner of the 2011 Concannon Vineyard “Family First” Sweepstakes.

“I’m thrilled. It didn’t occur to me when I entered that I might actually win, so I guess the first thing is to start to believe it,” said Wilson. “I feel blessed and very grateful. With our family scattered all over the United States and the challenges of being a freelance writer in this economy, it would be impossible to even think about getting everyone together without this award,” he continued.

The sweepstakes was created by the Concannon family who for over four generations have always put family first. "We are excited to help a deserving young couple like the Wilsons host the family reunion of their dreams,” remarked John Concannon, 4th generation vintner. The 2011 contest attracted over 500,000 entries, more than twice as many as last year.

“My wife and I are looking forward to planning the reunion and this award gives us a lot more options and flexibility. My mother may also retire soon so we will have another occasion to celebrate,” continued Wilson.

Experts recognize that staying connected to both immediate and extended family is important for several reasons including the opportunity to share memories and values, favorite recipes and to forge relationships that will last for generations. According to Edith Wagner, editor of Milwaukee based Reunions Magazine, an increasing number of Americans are making family gatherings a priority and planning family reunions that range from simple gatherings at the park to more elaborate celebrations like a family cruise. “Family reunions teach children about their family and may be the only link to know about family roots,” stated Wagner.

“When we get together, we will raise a toast to the Concannon family and their long-standing tradition of putting families first,” stated Wilson.
