Oakland, California (EastBayDaily) — Detroit Native, Jacques Lesure has been on the Jazz scene for 30 years. He has played with music's finest from Oscar Brown Jr.to Wynton Marsalis. For the last 10 years, he has resided in Los Angeles and has been an ambassador of the East Coast Jazz sound through his performances and educational endeavors. His "Straight Ahead, No Nonsense Jam Session" in Historic Leimert Park at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center is a popular Monday night destination for students and professionals from all over the world. With the influence of all the Jazz masters like Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, and others, Mr. Lesure brings a soulful, old school sound with a modern feel.
Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 9:00pm, Jacques Lesure will be performing at Duende Restaurant, 468 19th Street, Oakland, CA 94612. Bay Area bassist Marcus Shelby and drummer Akira Tana will be joining him for this special one-night only performance.
Among the playlist will be tunes from his latest CD release, "When She Smiles" on WJ3 records which drops August 20, 2013 and is available now for pre-order through Amazon. The project was produced by Willie Jones III. He plays drums on the album which also features renowned pianist Eric Reed and bassist Mike Gurrolla. Sure to be among Jazz lovers personal playlists, tracks include familiar standards with contemporary arrangements and one original, the title track, "When She Smiles.".
