Emeryville, California (EastBayDaily) — Ex’pression College Graduate Pedram Talai has been named the Director of Broadcast Engineering for Major League Baseball Advanced Media/MLB.com. Talai, who earned a Bachelor of Sound Arts degree from Ex’pression in 2007, is in charge of both East Coast and West Coast transmission operations and broadcast engineering for all MLB games, as well as events on ESPN3, WWE Network, Top Rank Boxing, CBS March Madness/Masters, Row 44, and many more.

“It’s exciting to be a part of an organization like MLB that’s constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with technology, and streaming in particular,” says Talai, who’s also a winner of MLB’s MVP award, which is given to ten of the company’s “most valuable” employees each year. “I find myself constantly being inspired to innovative, experiment, and devise new ways to make our broadcasts accessible to fans.”

Talai was born in San Francisco and grew up San Jose. He developed an interest in music engineering while he was a student at San Jose’s Willow Glen High School. When he graduated from Willow Glen H.S. in 2002, he decided that he wanted to pursue an education in, and ultimately a career in, the field of audio technology.

“I had a friend at the time who was attending Ex’pression College and he told me about how great the school was just as I was starting to really get serious about audio engineering,” says Talai. “I did some research about Ex’pression and I and took the tour, and I was immediately impressed by the facilities, the cutting edge studios, and the creative vibe. The fact that the Emeryville campus was close to home was a plus, so I enrolled in the Sound Arts program in 2004.”

After graduating in 2007, Talai leveraged Ex’pression’s vast national alumni network and connected with a graduate who referred him to the opportunity at MLB.

“My advice to Ex’pression students and grads is to network and keep tabs on what alumni are up to,” says Talai. “You never know when a fellow classmate will be working at a company that’s hiring, so keep in touch with as many of them as possible. Also, be open-minded when it comes to opportunities. There are times when you may have to relocate to a different city or maybe start out in a position that you didn't expect. A year or two down the line, your situation may totally change, so don’t think that you’ll be living somewhere or have that job title forever – it’s all part of the journey. Lastly, when you’re on the job, always ask questions. I would rather hear somebody who works for me let me know that they’re overwhelmed rather than say that everything’s okay if it really isn’t. Being overwhelmed is fine, just ask questions so you can get the answers you need to handle your responsibilities.”
